Autumn 2007

Long time no blog……

But just back from fantastic holiday in Portugal so inspired to get up to date.

The valley is stunning at the moment – the warm autumn and the lack of wind has given us an awe inspiring display. With strong winds forecast for tomorrow though I think we may soon experience the fall!

After a sticky start (literally thanks to a faulty septic tank having to be dug out by hand) we finally opened the campsite in August – and have been full for all the school holidays and are still taking bookings. There is no doubt that yurts are ‘hot’. A recent article referred to this sort of luxury camping as glamping – I really like the term. And the best comment in our visitors book “Can I live here”.

We are meeting a specialist sustainable builder tomorrow to discuss the amenities building – really excited that the build could soon be starting – it seems to have been in the pipeline for so long. We have already felled and milled the timber and it’s stacked ready for the build - we need to get as much of the heavy building materials down to the site before the wet weather makes it impossible to get down the slope.

In the meantime work has started on our new yurt storage barn – again being built our of our own timber so moving only 1 field from tree to build.

The website is well under way for a re-write – not before time but having come back expecting sales to have tailed off, November seems to have become the silly season for yurt sales – we’ve had our busiest month since we started – crazy but we like it. We are holding our prices for the rest of 2007 but our turnover now means we have to register for VAT (groan) - so unfortunately prices will have to go up next year.
