23 day Countdown

Starting to feel the pressure now - we are fully booked for the May half term and Western Power can't connect us until the 14th - which wouldn't matter except for the fact that we can't build the kitchen until they have put the transformer on the pole or they can't reach it. Peter and Gordon (our builder) keep saying calmly that there is plenty of time and they will work evenings and weekends if need be but I keep remembering the rains of last summer. Of course they are quite right - no point in worrying about the things you can't change.

The shower/loo block is up and roofed - just the cladding to do once the plumbing and electrics are done - and that's the really fun bit - instant transformation - the building will end up looking a bit like our barn (see Feb blog). Apart from the stirling board lining, we have used all our own timber which is really satisfying.
I remember getting soaked showering two little boys in a tiny cubicle so as well as showers we have a big corner bath going in. The solar panels and tanks are waiting to be installed - they are huge - much bigger than I expected but hopefully that means plenty of lovely free hot water.

Yurts continue to hit the news - there seems to be a newspaper feature every other day and yurt holidays were recommended on breakfast TV this morning. The rush on sales has matched last year - so we have done lots of yurt assembly lessons over the past month. Peter came up with the new design for the two door yurt rain cap and it works really well, sitting nice and sungly even in high winds.

We stayed in early June 2008 and this place is amazing. Amanda and Peter have done a wonderful job here.
