The end of the season

Well the campsite is now closed for the season – but not before our guests experienced some mad extremes of weather – it was so hot mid October that we had a suggestion in our visitor’s book requesting shade on the deck (noted!) – then for the final weekend it was -3 and the pipes froze – it was a good test that with the stove on, the felt insulation means the yurts are still toasty warm.

We ended the season with a Halloween party for the village – the local band, Prolapse, played valiantly – risking frostbite in their fingers to get everyone dancing – it was so cold that the wine glasses froze onto the table (truly!) and we were all obliged to drink copious quantities of mulled wine to keep warm.

Frustratingly we had to abandon the collection of the yurts last week as the ground was far too wet and slippery to get the tractor down. We’ve managed to move the furniture and are now pinning our hopes for a couple of dry days midweek – fingers crossed.

Writing this is an avoidance technique – I need to radically overhaul the Authentic Mongolian Yurt Co. website – which will be fine when I start but it’s the getting going that is proving difficult!
